I started playing with fabric and needles since I was a child in El Salvador. My mother, grandmother, and great grandmother have all had a passion for textiles and sewing. That was one of the strongest threads that connected us all, and for that reason I knew I wanted to keep this tradition going. After graduating from highschool, I moved to the United States to study and pursue a career in fashion industry, to soon discover that what I really wanted was to follow my creative passions in a simple and sustainable way, the same way my mother had done. Zelaya Design was born out of that desire, and the traditional Salvadoran knowledge I was raised with served as its foundation and main source of inspiration. This knowledge has been accumulated by generations upon generations of people who have lived more in tune with the natural rythims of life. Knowledge that was passed on to me by my mother and grandmother during commercial breaks of their favorite soap operas.
